Invoices and payments

how your payment method and invoices are managed, and what happens if a charge fails.

Fold's payments are handled through Stripe, the payment platform running behind the scenes. Everything related to your payment method and invoices lives on Account › Plan and billing.

Your invoices

Every charge generates an invoice, with the base amount and the applicable tax shown separately, available to download from that same screen. You also get an email with a summary of the charge and a direct link to the invoice.

Taxes

Tax is calculated based on your country; the exact rate is applied by the billing system at the moment of each payment.

Changing your payment method

You can add or update your card from Stripe's own billing portal, reached with a button from Account › Plan and billing.

If a charge fails

A failed charge does not downgrade your plan immediately. Fold gives you a grace period starting from the date of the first failed attempt: during that time everything keeps working normally (questions, AI, support), although you can't buy extra question blocks until you're caught up. You get an email the day it fails, a reminder partway through the grace period, and a final warning right before it ends.

If the charge still can't go through once the grace period ends, your account drops to the Free plan's limits. No data is deleted: as soon as the payment goes through, everything goes back to exactly how it was, with nothing else for you to do, and you'll get a confirmation email.

Changing plans

Upgrading charges the difference right away; if that charge fails, the plan isn't changed and you stay on your current one, without being marked as overdue for that attempt. Downgrading applies without needing an extra charge.

Cancelling your subscription

You can cancel your paid subscription from the same screen. Once cancelled, you keep your plan until the end of the period you've already paid for, then move to the Free plan, with no data lost and no refund for the remaining part of the month.
