Getting started with Fold
what Fold is, what happens right after sign-up, and the three steps to get value from day one.
Fold is your company's assistant: you ask it what you'd ask a coworker in the office — a price, a customer, an order, whatever lives in your spreadsheets — and it answers with figures pulled straight from your own data, telling you exactly which file, sheet, and row each answer came from. If something isn't in your data, it says so instead of guessing.
When you sign up
When you register your company, you pick your sector (retail, accounting firm, workshop, transport, or other). Fold automatically loads a starter template for that sector, with examples and the columns a file like yours usually has, so the first spreadsheet you upload gets recognized faster. You start on the Free plan, no card required.
A confirmation email goes to whoever registered: the link expires in 48 hours and only works once. Until it's confirmed, the account isn't active.
Three steps to get value
- Upload your first spreadsheet. From Account › My data, upload the file you want Fold to use for whatever you'll ask it about — pricing, stock, deliveries, anything. (See "Upload your first spreadsheet and confirm columns.")
- Confirm what each column is. Fold proposes a mapping based on your sector; you confirm or correct it before it's used for anything.
- Ask it the way you'd ask a coworker. No special syntax needed. (See "How to ask good questions.")
What you'll see on screen
On the left, the chat with Fold. On the right, the side panel: which files the office Messenger is watching (if you have one installed), what Fold has read most recently, and how many questions you've used this month.
Who can do what
Everyone you invite gets a role: owner, admin, member, or read-only. The owner pays and picks the plan; the other roles have different permissions for asking questions, uploading data, or managing the team. See "Team and roles."
If something doesn't add up
Fold never rounds numbers, never picks between two conflicting prices, and flags it when several rows could be the answer instead of deciding on its own. That's intentional: we'd rather say "I can't tell from this data" than risk a wrong number.
