Requesting an automation
how to request a custom feature from Fold, how it gets priced, and what happens before it's built.
From Features, anyone with permission can ask Fold for something new: "also alert me when stock drops below X," "calculate this other thing," whatever you need Fold to do that it doesn't do today.
Discovery first: closing the brief
Instead of jumping straight to a quote, Fold has a conversation with you to nail down everything needed before building anything: what data is involved, real examples, which systems are in play, what rules and exceptions apply, what alerts should go out, and what it must NOT do. At the end of that conversation you'll see the closed brief: a summary of exactly what will be built, for you to confirm before moving forward.
Pricing
The price comes from a formula that scores the request by its real complexity (how many data sources it touches, whether it connects to external systems, whether it handles money or your own customers' data, how many rules it has...). There are two fixed-price tiers — small and medium — and a larger third tier that always gets a manual quote from David, with no automatic price. The exact amounts for each tier are shown on the Features screen when you make a request.
When an automatic price isn't given
If the goal is unclear, if there's no readable sample of the data, if the integration doesn't name a specific system, or if the AI running the discovery flags it as a large request, no price is calculated automatically: it goes straight to David for a manual review.
When it touches money or your own customers
If the feature you're requesting handles invoices, amounts, tax data, or talks directly to your customers, it still gets built, but its final activation is done by David by hand after review — never automatically. You'll see it flagged that way on screen.
Confirming and paying
Once you have a quote, you need to confirm the closed brief and pay before any work starts. Nothing gets built without that confirmation and that payment.
Tracking progress
From Features you can see which stage your request is in: discovery, quoted, accepted, paid, in progress, or published. Once it's ready, you'll get an email and can try it out.
